What a team member’s first week at Hype looks like ?

Mirun Gowsheck

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.”

― Mae West

As someone who aspires to live life by this quote, I became very reluctant to make bold decisions over the past couple of years, for I was living in a bubble, in my comfort zone. Having been employed at one of the more renowned digital marketing agencies in the country and having experienced commendable career growth in recent years, I felt that my future was secured as long as I worked there. But as time went by, the opportunities to learn and growth prospects started to wane. My workflow became monotonous, and the endeavours that I took within my workplace became increasingly less challenging. So, I casually started looking for job opportunities that could put my skills to good use. This was when I stumbled upon the advert for my current position at Hype and… I immediately applied!

There onwards, a series of interviews and tests later, I got the call from Isuru (my current boss) congratulating me on getting the job. Hype is my fourth workplace, and in comparison, the first week here was nothing short of amazing, probably the best work week I’ve ever enjoyed!

Having previously worked at a company with a comparatively more formal environment and with a larger headcount, I find life at Hype awe-inspiring. Beautiful people with wide and friendly smiles, good music, and an environment that nurtures constant learning is what I am seeing now (while writing this blog), and I am certainly loving it!

Onboarding and Day One

The onboarding process was so effortless and friendly, and on my first day, even though I was anxious and timid, the environment was warm and welcoming. My role requires me to handle complex tasks, so I was immediately put on training wheels. But, that too was interesting–I was told to finish reading a book, which was part of the training curriculum here. My inner bibliophile started to scream with excitement. And yes, I finished the book the next day, and I certainly enjoyed every bit of it. Also, you get to keep the audiobook as well! *wide grinch smiles*

My first day at Hype was enlightening, and towards the end of the day, I realised that this company comes with the promise of knowledge, and as I will be learning new things, I was required to do some unlearning as well.

Day Two

On the second day, I arrived at the office having set my resolve to change my perspective on things; I accepted that I am a Padawan who now needs to learn things faster. As the day went by, I progressed through my training sessions which were conducted by equally friendly and charismatic people.

The most fantastic thing about the day was that I got to sit for a training session on email flow. Isuru conducted the session, and it was done in a brilliant and effortless way. The information that was shared was easily understandable. Having already read a book with the same concepts that were described with the info scattered throughout my mind, the session helped me connect the dots–this is the type of learning that I’m looking forward to, and I am really excited about this journey!

The days that followed and my hopes for the future

The third, fourth and fifth days were also filled with so much knowledge sharing and nurturing sessions. Of course, there was a lot of information to take in, but I’m sure that I will learn and adapt to this new work environment.

The clients that I will be working with are far more diverse than I expected, therefore, I see a lot of amazing opportunities to learn and grow, which is the whole purpose of me moving into Hype. So, with the sense of the force staying strong on my side and realising that I’m starting the hero’s journey all over again, I am eagerly looking forward to growing with Hype–for I feel both myself and the company are destined for greatness!
